Community partnerships
The Rocinha the world needs to see.
On foot. With a local guide. Among people who actually live here.
From R$ 980 · up to 8 people
Not a tour. An invitation — from people with real ties here.
Visiting Rocinha as a tourist is safe when you go with a guide who has direct community ties. Gontijo Tour walks the route on foot, partners with local businesses, and films no resident without consent. The money from the tour cycles back into the community.

On safety, ethics, and what you'll actually feel.
Everything you want to know before you book.
Yes, when you go with a guide who knows the community. The tour is on foot, on a route aligned with local leadership, during normal daytime hours. We don't promise zero risk — we promise full attention, a safe route, and the cultural keys only a resident-guided tour can offer.
It's the right question to ask. Our answer: the route is built in partnership with Rocinha businesses — your host is from here. Tour money irrigates the local economy. Nothing is staged. You leave having met people, not characters.
If anything ever feels disrespectful to you, tell Daniel. We adjust on the spot.
Only with explicit consent. Daniel asks on your behalf when it makes sense. Generally: landscapes, viewpoints, street art — yes. People — only after asking.
Maybe at first. Rocinha doesn't look like any tourist neighborhood you know. But discomfort becomes listening — and listening becomes respect. Nearly every visitor says it was the highlight of their Rio trip.
Around 4 hours. Moderate walking with regular stops. Comfortable shoes, water, and you're set.
We adapt. There's a shorter route with more stops — mention it when you book.
